Prayer of Fear (Havf)
In Islamic jurisprudence, the prayer of fear is a prayer in which obligatory prayers are performed in shifts, following a single imam, in the face of threats such as attacks from enemies, bandits, wild animals, fire, or floods. According to the majority of Islamic scholars, the prayer of fear actually refers to the congregation performing an obligatory prayer in two groups, following the imam in shifts, during a time of serious danger such as an enemy attack. This prayer has a place in Islam and is established by the Quran and hadiths.
How to Perform
3 Steps
- "When you are traveling in the land and you fear that the disbelievers will attack you, there is no sin upon you for shortening your prayer. Indeed, the disbelievers are your open enemies."
- "(O Muhammad!) When you are among them on the battlefield and lead them in prayer, let some of them stand with you in prayer, keeping their weapons with them. When they prostrate (and complete one rak'ah), let them move behind you (facing the enemy)."
- "Then let the others who have not yet prayed come and pray with you, and let them be vigilant, keeping their weapons with them."
- "The disbelievers wish that you would be heedless of your weapons and equipment so that they might attack you suddenly. If you suffer hardship from rain or if you are sick, there is no harm in you laying down your weapons. Nevertheless, be vigilant (take precautions). Indeed, Allah has prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment."
- "When you have finished the prayer, remember Allah while standing, sitting, or lying down. And when you feel secure, perform the prayer completely. Indeed, prayer has been prescribed for the believers at specific times."
