Kaza Prayer
Performing prayers outside of their prescribed times is called "qada." Making up the five obligatory daily prayers that were not performed on time is obligatory (fard), while making up the Witr prayer is wajib. In this case, only the obligatory part of the prayer (along with the adhan and iqama) is performed.
How to Perform
3 Steps
- Making up the morning prayer (Fajr) can be done before sunrise, after the disliked time (kerahat vakti) has passed, and up to 45 minutes before noon, along with its sunnah.
- There is no specific time for making up missed prayers. That is, there is no restriction that a missed midday prayer must be performed at midday. It can be performed at any time except during disliked times (makruh times).
- Leaving a prayer unperformed without a valid excuse is a major sin.
- Even though a prayer missed without a valid excuse can be made up to clear the debt, repentance is still necessary for the sin committed.
- There are certain excuses that do not require making up missed prayers later. Menstruation and postpartum bleeding in women, and epileptic seizures or madness that persist five times a day are examples of such excuses. In fact, it is forbidden (haram) for a woman who is menstruating or in postpartum bleeding to pray.
- "And perform the prayer when you feel secure. Indeed, prayer has been prescribed for the believers at appointed times." (An-Nisa, verse 103)
- When the Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked which act was more virtuous, he replied, "Prayer performed at its earliest time" (Abu Dawud).
