When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) climbed a high hill upon returning from a military campaign or Hajj, he would say 'Allahu Akbar' three times. Then he would recite the declaration of oneness of God (kalima-i tawhid):
“Allahu Akbar (three times), there is no god but Allah. He alone exists. He has no partner. To Him belongs the dominion. To Him belongs all praise. And He is All-Powerful. We are those who have returned from a journey, repented, worshipped, prostrated, and praised our Lord. Allah fulfilled His promise and helped His servant. He alone defeated various armies.” (Bukhari, Umrah, 12)
